How does the USDOT help the consumer ?
The USDOT is a Government Agency. It is a "mother" agency, with a dozen smaller agencies within. Their main concern is to ensure safety, efficient speed, and convenience in the area of transportation. The smaller department of the DOT that concerns Independent Couriers is the FMCSA. These letters stand for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. This administration is concerned with motor vehicle safety, preventing fatalities on the road, improving technologies, strengthening equipment, and increasing safety awareness for drivers.
They operate in a building located in the nations capital, Washington DC. This department of our government, attempts to maintain (by making laws) a safe and adequate level of acceptable behavior from people and business who use OTR transportation as a part of every day life. They want to maintain a level that everyone can agree is OK for them.
The AICVOA will invite an introduction to the FMCSA, if they can help or "clarify" the rules and regulation currently on the books, for pick-up and delivery business's here in the USA.
