What does it mean to be a Sub-Contracting Courier ?
Basic Concept:
The Courier (ICVO) communicates and deals with a (sell's service) with a “Larger Courier Company”. They say there are 7000 of these “Larger Courier Companies” in the USA. Wonderful. As an Independent Courier Van Operator, your best chances of getting work would be through a “larger (sub-contracting to you) courier service company”. Delivery opportunities are rather endless. So there's plenty of work to go around for everyone, and then some. Only drawback is a lack of fundamental principal's, on [How to "deal" with a Contractor] the ICVO who is contracted to perform a SERVICE for the Larger Courier Company, to whom is burdened the task of producing accurate "record keeping", is an issue.
The AICVOA is looking forward to expanding ICVO's clerical ability for comprehensive bookkeeping and accountability for all parties concerned. Current systems are very limited. Systems are available, however the ICVOs' interactivity with the system (modes of communication) lack's ethical integrity, and diligent accounting is bypassed. The AICVOA is currently working on a system that would “fill in the void”, in the ethical integrity department.
1). The ICVO avail's himself (or herself) for a SPPD. The Larger (Sub-Contracting) Courier Company has a "Job Order" ready for "Sub-Contracting" - then communicates (phone, two-way radio) directly with you (the ICVO).
2). The Job-Oder is “dispatched” to you. You then perform the Job-Order. When job is done, the ICVO notifies the “Larger Courier Company” or "Contracting Company" that the job is done.
3). Larger (sub-contracting) Courier Company then gives you new directions either to stand-by or head to another geographic location for SPPD service.
4). Remuneration for the Completed Delivery-Job is paid by the Larger (sub-contracting) Courier Company to the ICVO - by paying the ICVO by check or electronically.
A-1). The ICVO does not submit an invoice (although you can or must be required) to the Larger Courier Company only. The Larger Courier Company is supposed to pay you a percentage of the total delivery charge (for that particular job). You receive a check with a print out of the job's you performed. Usually every 2 weeks. More so than not, a fair unadulterated percentage rate get's “lost in translation”, meaning there's allot of room for abuse. The AICVOA is dedicated to spelling-out exact measurements and rules-of-engagement for Contractor and Sub-Contractor to follow. The AICVOA advocates positive industry standards and the crystal clear understanding of what is expected from whom ! The AICVOA wishes only to promote the Courier Industry in the highest possible light.
